"The menopause" is when a woman stops having periods, and happens on average between the ages of 45 and 55 - although can actually be much earlier. This is something that can happen naturally, as a result of surgery, or certain medications eg chemotherapy.
You may experience a range of symptoms, both physical and psychological - the most common being hot flushes, night sweats, anxiety, palpitations, mood swings, tiredness, headaches, loss of libido, joint and muscle pains and changes in body shape, bladder issues and skin changes.
During my many years experience as a practice nurse, I had many a conversation about the menopause with patients and can advise and help you with a number of the physical and psychological issues associated with this stage of our lives.
Having time to treat yourself is very important, as it is known that stress exacerbates menopausal symptoms. Relaxation is essential for our wellbeing, and has many health benefits. Whilst the list of possible symptoms seems daunting, not all women experience all of these - and the severity varies greatly.
You can enjoy any of the therapies I offer, and I have taken additional training in Hypnotherapy for the menopause, Acupuncture points for the menopause, and the use of essential oils in Aromatherapy specific to the “change” of life. I offer bespoke treatment for you, and most of my complementary therapies can be used together as a “fusion”.
The menopause can effect your skin, causing loss of elasticity and tone, pigmentation and lines and wrinkle. You can't turn the clock back, however you can look after your skin to keep it in the best condition it can be in with regular professional facial treatments and good quality products.

I am currently studying the "Jennifer Young Hormone Balancing Touch Therapy" course, which looks at the 3 stages of the menopause and how we can balance the body with products containing natural sources of oestrogen- applied with specialist massage techniques incorporating a traditional Ayurvedic Kansa wand - a wooden handled tool with a smooth tip made from copper and tin. This combination of metals provides antimicrobial and detoxifying properties for the skin.
Certain essential oils can be beneficial to use during the menopause, eg Rose, Geranium and Clary Sage - as an aromatherapist, I believe that your body indicates what oils it needs - simply by preference.
